IHMA was established in 2004 to assist Australian Apprentices/Trainees and International Students gain the necessary knowledge and skills in the Australian Hospitality Industry and to be able to competently compete for employment in Hospitality in Australia and/or in other counties around the world via the utilisation of Student Services and processes which include:
IHMA aims to achieve outcomes expected of traditional time served apprentices. Importantly, IHMA is a strong proponent of exposure to real commercial pressures to assist students gain real workplace competence in a range of cuisines and circumstances.
IHMA students must be at least 18 years of age. All IHMA students are treated as adults and must act and work like adults to achieve the outcomes set out in IHMA courses. Students are encouraged to contribute 100% to their own development while with IHMA. IHMA does not tolerate poor manners, poor behavior and/or low achievement. One major goal of IHMA is to assist students that may not have met with expected training outcomes due to circumstances faced with another training provider. IHMA utilises a process of non-credential assessments, testing and closely supervised workplace simulations to establish the level of ability attained by a student at any point in their training. A gap analysis outcome is translated into training or workplace experience deficiencies and these are dealt with in a structured manner to bridge the identified gap.
IHMA courses and processes have been designed to meet the expectations of Australian employers and therefore allow participants make a valuable contribution to the hospitality industry, the Australian economy and community.
